Lataguri at a glance
Lataguri is a small village located in the Jalpaiguri district of Indian state of West Bengal. The village is located outside the Gorumara National Park on National Highway No. 31.
The Dooars or Duars are the floodplains and foothills of the eastern Himalayas in North-East India around Bhutan. Duar means door in Assamese, Nepali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Magahi and Bengali languages, and the region forms the gateway to Bhutan from India. There were 18 passages or gateways through which the Bhutanese people can communicate with the people living in the plains. This region is divided by the Sankosh river into the Eastern and the Western Dooars. The Western Dooars is known as the Bengal Dooars and the Eastern Dooars the Assam Dooars. Dooars is synonymous with the term Terai used in Nepal and northern India. The only nitrate rich soil (Terai) in India.
The beauty of the region lies not only in its tea gardens but also in the dense jungles that make up the countryside. Many wildlife sanctuaries and national park like Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, Buxa National Park, Gorumara National Park, Chapramari Wildlife Reserve and the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary in West Bengal are located in this region.
A number of rare endangered species of animals like tiger, rhinoceros and elephant make their habitat in the forests of the Dooars. Other animals includes different types of deer, bison, birds and reptiles.

Air
The closest airport is at Bagdogra (about 75 km from Lataguri and a two and half hour drive) and is connected by air with all the Metros in the country.

Rail
New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the nearest rail head and is also about 70 kms from Lataguri. NJP is also connected with all the major cities of the country with most of trains heading for the north-eastern states making a stop at this junction.

Road
Bus services can be availed from Siliguri to Lataguri from Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus, Siliguri. However, it is more convenient to travel in smaller vehicles which are available on seat sharing basis/hire, from near the Bus terminus, airport and railway station. One can hire a vehicle also.

Gorumara National Park
Gorumara National Park is located in the Dooars plains in North Bengal. Famous for its natural population of the Great Indian one horned Rhinoceros this small forest area was declared a National Park, in the year 1992 for the protection of its flora and fauna. The park lying on the bank of rivers Murti in the Himalayan foothills has great natural beauty.

Samsing
The rolling hill slopes and green belt of Dooars plains will take you to Samsing. A nice cool shady place at an altitude of 600m Samsing is a recent addition in the North Bengal tourist map for its tranquil landscape and unpolluted surroundings. The horizon extended tea gardens, undulating hill slopes, meandering streams, rural life of simple village people attracting a large number of tourists from different parts of the country. Samsing is also known for its traditional orange orchards and cardamom plantation.

A wilderness resorts on the bank of Suntale Stream surrounded by dense forested hills is just 4 kms from Samsing. One can feel the freshness of nature here.
