Jaldapara at a glance
Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas in Alipurduar Sub-Division of Jalpaiguri District in West Bengal.
The river Torsha flows through this rain forest sanctuary and have an area of 141 Sq.km and altitude of 61 m. Jaldapara, the vast grassland with patches of riverine forests was declared a sanctuary in 1941 for protection of the great variety flora and fauna, particularly the one-horned rhinoceros, an animal threatened with extinction. The Jaldapara Sanctuary covers 216 sq km, is a mosaic of woods, grasslands, perennial streams, sandy river banks and extensive belts of tall grass. It contains a great diversity of flora and fauna of mixed deciduous forest, grasslands and river banks. The Malangi River also flows nearby from east to west. Drained by rivers Torsa, Malangi, Hollong, Chirakhawa, Kalijhora, Sissamara, Bhaluka and Buri Torsa, the Sanctuary provides extensive grassland which is last refuge to a wide variety of mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds.

Air
The closest airport is at Bagdogra (about 120 km from Jaldapara and a three and half hour drive) and is connected by air with all the Metros in the country.

Rail
Hasimara is the nearest rail head and is also about 30 kms from Jaldapara. New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is about 130 km from Jaldapara & it is also connected with all the major cities of the country with most of trains heading for the north-eastern states making a stop at this junction.

Road
Bus services can be availed from Siliguri to Jaldapara from Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus, Siliguri. However, it is more convenient to travel in smaller vehicles which are available on seat sharing basis/hire, from near the Bus terminus, airport and railway station. One can hire a vehicle also.

Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary
Jaldapara, the land of Asiatic one-horned rhino, is a pride of Dooars in North Bengal foothills and a 'must to visit' place for nature lovers. Jaldapara, an enriched bio-diversity with varied flora and fauna, is a prime destination particularly for wild-lifers. The forest mainly comprises of savanna and riverine type, and is an ideal place for rhino, bison, elephant, deer and innumerable smaller mammals.
The vast grasslands of Jaldapara provides a great opportunity for sighting wild animals. The adventurous elephant ride early in the morning and exciting car safari allows the tourists to enter deep inside the forest. Sitting on the back of an elephant one can have a prized view of rhino resting in a muddy pool or a herd of elephants roaming majestically in the open grasslands. -
Buxa Tiger Reserve
With an area of 759 Sq. Kms the Buxa Tiger Reserve was established in the year of 1982-83 to save the most important species of North Bengal The Royal Bengal Tiger. The park is located at the north eastern corner of Dooars plains of North Bengal bordering Bhutan and Assam. The core area of 315 sq. kms around the Buxa Fort was declared a National Park in January 1992. Situated at an altitude of 2600 ft above sea level the forest mainly comprises of deciduous forests, which are densely wooded and is home to some of West Bengal's most varied flora and fauna.

Jayanti
Jayanti is the name of a river passing through the Buxa Tiger Reserve. The hills on the Eastern Side of the river are also referred to as Jayanti Hills. Jayanti also refers to the small village on the banks of the river inside the reserve. Jayanti village is situated inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve. It is a beautiful spot on the bank of Jayanti River. Encircled by forested hills overlooking the river a beautiful rest house of the forest department provides accommodation for the tourist.
